Ship Systems Engineer - Secret Clearance

The prospective candidate will be responsible for Advanced Planning and Execution of all Modernization work scheduled for Surface Combatant ships homeported in Norfolk, VA. Duties include:

- Locally chairs monthly Advanced Planning meetings conducted with PEO SHIPS and other program sponsors for CG, DDG, and FFG Class ships.

- Ensure that Letters of Authorization (LOAs) and associated message traffic are properly distributes to all waterfront activities.

- Reviews work specification and drawing packages with assigned Planning Yard activities to ensure accuracy of engineering data prior to execution.

- Coordinates closely with all Program Acquisition Resource Managers (PARMs) for support services required by AITs during CNO availabilities.

- Meets regularly with Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) personnel (Port Engineers, Project Managers, Planners, Leadership, etc.) to ensure that modernization programs are understood and properly briefed for scope of work.

- Maintains access to critical websites used to manage modernization work including Navy Maintenance Database (NMD), Navy Data Environment (NDE), JDMICS drawing database, and various Planning Yard databases.

- Attends pre-arrival and arrival conferences with Ship's Force. When required, brief Ship's Force on scope of modernization, key players, and integration challenges. Works closely with Planning Yard counterparts.

- Conducts shipchecks with assigned PEO SHIPS PMR reps on site in order to evaluate effectiveness of advanced planning efforts. This includes a thorough walk through on all modernization work items, both Engineering and Combat Systems.

- Participates in post availability "Hotwash" events to capture lessons learned and process issues in order to improve future availabilities.

- When required, participates in Technical Evaluation and Review of Proposals (TERP) for new contracts for ship repair and modernization.

- Tracks Advanced Planning SHIPMAIN milestones with PY support. Advises MARMC on drawing delivery status, shortfalls, and maturity of alterations including drawings, logistics, and baseline approval.

 

Requirements:

- Secret clearance
- 10-15 years experience in Navy Maintenance and Modernization efforts
- Microsoft Project and Excel capability
- May be required to travel to assist the Ship Program Manager (SPM) and his/her representatives in execution of duties including trips to PEO SHIPS 400F in Washington, DC, Planning Yard reviews in Pascagoula, MS and Bath, ME, Warfare Centers in Port Hueneme, CA, Philadelphia, PA, and Crane, IN
