Job Summary:

Applications Engineering is responsible supporting new products from the inception phase through volume launch of WiMAXplus enabled OEM products.  This includes defining and maintaining the WiMAXplus demonstration systems, defining and sustaining the Software development kit (SDK) and Evaluation Kit (EVK). 

 

Apps Engineering is responsible for preparing reference designs for sale, assisting customers with HW / SW integration and debug, writing application notes and datasheets, and providing sales training.  Apps Engineering will operate a 24/7 call center if deemed necessary to support the business.  Applications Engineering is responsible for conducting training of regional sales representatives and distributors. 

Skills and Experience required for this position:

?  8 years of software development experience for wireless subscriber products and/or IP network communications semiconductor or systems experience.

?  Must have Software Applications Engineering experience supporting cellular handsets, or baseband semiconductor products for mobile handset applications.

?  Will consider software engineers who have been developing embedded code for mobile terminals and have driver software experience. 

?  Must be knowledgeable of mobile terminal software stacks, IP stacks, ISO software  model, and standard IP software components. 

?  Must be knowledgeable in basic communications architectures including base station and subscriber station devices for cellular applications. 

?  Must be knowledgeable of basic communications theory that may include CDMA, GSM, Wi-Fi, WiMAX or Bluetooth. 

?  Must have experience with leading handset vendors and some experience working with overseas ODMs.

?  Must be a highly motivated, flexible, and self-directed individual. 

?  Must be able to work independently, making appropriate decisions, and driving the company agenda with vendors, partners and customers.  

?  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 

?  Must be comfortable in a highly dynamic start-up environment. 

?BSEE required.

 

Job Responsibilities:

?  Defining subscriber product SDK requirements for ASICs, software features & functions, and demonstration requirements.

?  Defining MOB test objectives as they apply to subscriber terminal devices such as handsets, PMP, Gateway, CPE modem. 

?  Writing applications notes to support the SDK, EVK and reference designs.

?  Defining the process for upgrading customer firmware through a software release process administered through the company secure website.

?  Defining test procedures used to verify performance using the WiMAXplus demonstration system and EVK.

?  Maintaining the Applications Engineering lab with current test equipment and 24/7 demonstration capabilities. 

?  Maintain the portable demonstration system in working order and ready for travel at any time.

?  Direct customer interaction with Marketing & Sales in support of new design wins and post design-wins.

?  Supporting customer bugs and problems and entering these issues into a queue of bug fixes for the development team.

?  Supporting MOB field trials as necessary to test subscriber terminal functions, features and performance.

?  Developing processes for evaluating and qualifying vendor products and software including handsets, wireless modems, gateways, and media adapter products for fixed and mobile applications.

?  This position requires extensive work at a computer terminal which comprises approximately all the time spent not traveling.

?  This position may require contact with overseas vendors in evenings after 6pm (ie, Asia), early mornings before 6am (Europe), or middle of the night (ie, India).
