Software Engineer - Content Technology

We have an opening within Judicial and 3rd Party Content Development Group (J3). This is an organization that develops and supports the software systems used by Thomson West employees to receive data, programmatically enhance the data, and supply software systems for the manipulation and manual enhancement of the data for all judicial law material processed by Thomson West. The products produced from these systems account for more than 600 million dollars in annual revenue for the Company. There are a number of projects to fundamentally re-engineer existing systems and processes with leading advanced technologies to position the content management organization to effectively manage significant increase in content volumes and complexity in support of new revenue generating product offerings of the company.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Provide input on design & development specification documents

Provide input to project development estimates & timelines

Configure, develop, test & maintain application software

Code according to requirements and design specifications

Collaborate effectively in a team environment with other developers, team leads, business users, and internal technical contacts towards completion of configuration, development, & unit testing

Timely communication of status to project leaders in oral and written formats

Share technical knowledge with other team members

Recognize and communicate opportunities to add value through the application of new technology solutions

Extend, enhance and maintain current systems to allow for flexibility, stability, and scalability while preserving existing functionality

Effectively balance and prioritize multiple projects concurrentlyQualificationsBS/BA in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, or related studies 1+ years of software development experience Strong Java competency Well versed in database technologies, specifically Oracle (JDBC, Connection Pooling, etc.) Knowledge of distributed computing applications Knowledge of high-level network programming API's (HTTP, FTP) Unix & Windows OS environment experience Ability to work in a dynamic environment with aggressive deadlines Strong oral and written communication skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment OOAD background
