Software Engineer, Edge Server Platform

We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, highly productive software engineer. Responsibilities include providing Engineering support for all aspects of the Akamai Edge Server Platform (ESP) for Akamai Professional Services, Customer Care, and our customers.

The Edge Server Platform Support team handles all questions involving how the Akamai platform serves content and accelerates applications to end users. We work very closely with the Edge Server Platform developers to come up with solutions to field problems, propose configuration and code changes, and implement fixes to problems we have detected. This individual will become familiar with the details of the ESP code base and other Akamai distributed systems. This individual will use this acquired knowledge to solve network and customer issues and to develop and deploy fixes and enhancements for the ESP components.

* Work with Customer Care and Professional Services to solve issues with customer traffic in live configurations and staging or test configurations.
* Work with the Platform development team to solve platform problems and design code fixes
* Implement changes and design regression tests to make permanent solutions to platform problems.
* Implement tools for use by PS and CCare for problem tracking, diagnosis and document management.
* Work with the EdgeServer documentation team to create and maintain a knowledge base of platform issues.
* Some on call duties for off-hours problem resolution. (Normally one week on call every 2-3 months)

Required Skills:
* BS in Computer Science with five years relevant experience.
* Expert knowledge of C and C++.
* Experience with and detailed knowledge of the HTTP protocol.
* Knowledge of TCP/IP and how HTTP uses TCP/IP.
* Working knowledge of SQL.
* 2-5 years experience with Linux.
* Good knowledge of Unix shell and/or Perl or Python scripting.
* Ability to handle multiple issues at a time.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal Akamai personnel and with Akamai customers.
* Ability to write clear documents describing network issues and their resolution.
