JOB SUMMARY
This position fills a leading role on teams assembled to design automated manufacturing systems for ATS Systems Oregon.  Responsible for designing and implementing software control programs specific to customer and project requirements.  Programming assignments may involve PLC?s, PC?s, robotics, vision systems, and other controllers, separately or in combination.  Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.  May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other exempt and nonexempt personnel. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Design and develop software programs specific to customer and project requirements based on standard ATS programming methods when applicable.
2. Work with Customers, Project Managers, Designers, Toolmakers, and Technicians to solve problems in order to provide the Customer with a complete functional system.
3. Select, test, and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, grippers, load cells, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems, and lasers.
4. Examine system timing performance requirements and verify that software controls will meet them.
5. Debug and commission software programs on our shop floor during systems integration phase and then at the Customer?s site during installation.
6. Travel as required to Customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning, and training tasks.
7. Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify software program completeness.
8. Provide accurate documentation for each project.
9. Collaborate with Software Engineering Manager to create an Engineering Deliverables plan that when executed will satisfy the overall project schedule.
10. Monitor and report progress toward Engineering Deliverables to the Software Engineering Manager on a weekly basis.  Define and execute a recovery plan if Deliverables are not completed on schedule.
11. On a weekly basis, review and update labor estimates to complete each assigned job.  Notify Software Engineering Manager when under or over capacity utilization situations are projected.
12. Provide technical mentoring and design leadership to Junior Engineers as needed.
13. Give technical direction to Toolmakers and Technicians as needed.
14. Consult regularly with Project Managers to report status, raise issues, take direction, and help where needed.
15. Participate in regular project status updates with Customers.
16. Present designs during internal and Customer project reviews.
17. Follow all applicable ATSOR ISO procedures.
18. Promote a positive professional image of ATS internally and externally.
19. Provide superior customer service to all internal and external Customers. 
20. Meets agreed upon goals and objectives in a timely manner.
21. Arrives to work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions on time and as scheduled.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
1. Periodically assist with the Software Engineering Manager?s responsibilities during his/her absence.
2. Review design concepts and labor and material budget estimates supplied by Applications Engineers during the quotation phase for prospective projects.  Provide constructive criticism and improved design ideas when possible.
3. Travel to potential customer sites to assist Sales and/or Applications Engineering in the evaluation of new business opportunities.
4. Assists in formulating departmental strategic plan.
5. Serves as a member of various employee and organizational committees.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
