Software Engineer - Install

This position is responsible for specifying, designing, developing, testing, and documenting the Install function of commercial software with minimal direction from an Engineering Manager or lead engineer.  Typically works on projects of increasing scope and impact.  A certain degree of creativity and independent judgment is required to accomplish project goals.  May provide direction for one or more software developers.

 

Responsibilities:
Provide detailed breakdown and estimates of work assignments and report progress to the Engineering Manager and lead engineer.
Specify, design, and implement installation functionality based on requirements and functional specifications provided by the Product Manager or Engineering.'
Researches/identifies new Install methodologies.
Usually delivers work product that meets department quality metrics.
Works collaboratively with QA engineers through participation in the testing process and review of QA documentation.
When written documentation is required, provide clearly written documentation that is appropriate for the intended audience.
Contribute to the development team through timely participation in team activities such as status meetings and technical reviews (requirements, design, code, etc).
Stay technically current in the software technologies used within your development team through conferences, classes, study groups, self-study, and on-the-job assignments

 

Qualifications:
B.S. Computer Science or equivalent professional software development experience.
At least two years of professional software development experience.
Experience developing with Windows Installation software development technology required.
Experience in MSI and Install Shield is required.  Experience with VB scripting is desired. Knowledge of object-oriented software design concepts and development process is desired.
Experience in object-oriented C++ programming.
Experience in C# and .Net is desired.
Knowledge of software development process.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction (e.g. communicates proactively, proposes solutions to problems instead of merely identifying cause of problem, and proposes direction instead of always asking for direction).
Experience developing with Windows software development technology (e.g. Windows API, tools, libraries, components) is desired.
An understanding of the windows operating system and the impact of system configuration and settings on application software is desired.
Experience using Windows productivity tools (e.g.: MS Office, FrontPage ?) is desired.
