Software Engineering Manager

Position purpose (general summary of this position):

 

Through team/project leaders, supervisors and professional staff, reviews, evaluates and approves software development specifications, projects, proposals, methods and schedules. Monitors progress on a variety of software products/projects to ensure fulfillment of product and scheduling objectives. Accomplishes technical design objectives through software development staff. Establishes requirements for software documentation. May work with marketing department to design and develop software for specific customer applications. Acts as an advisor to subordinate staff members on complex technical problems.

 

Education required:

 

BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 10 years of related experience.

 

Skills required:

 5 years experience in Software Management15 years experience in software developmentProficiency programming in an ?Object-Oriented language? (like C++) in a Windows NT/2K environment.Experience designing software subsystems using an object oriented design approach.Experience planning, organizing and leading a software development project involving a large software controlled electro-mechanical system.Highly self motivatedKeen attention to detailAble to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environmentExperience using standard software requirements definitions methods. These include data flow diagrams, state charts, etc.Strong leadership qualities including initiative, communication, training and coaching skills.Ability to interact directly with customers and help them define their requirements.Excellent verbal and written communication skills Prior experience with source code control tools, problem tracking/reporting systems, software build toolsExperience working as a software engineer on capital equipment systems is a plus Good understanding and experience with Microsoft?s foundation classes a plus
