Software Quality Assurance Specialist

The UTCFS central engineering organization is seeking a motivated and resourceful professional to lead the development and application of software quality assurance (SQA) processes in product development. The successful individual must possess hands-on knowledge regarding the application of state-of-the-art industry standards and tools for ensuring the quality of embedded and stand-alone software systems, as well as the integration of hardware/software systems.

The responsibilities of the position include the following:
(a2Establish a process/methodology for ensuring software quality, reliability and robustness and create corresponding standard work to be employed as an integral part of the passport process for product development
(a2Assist program teams in the application of SQA process/tools for rigorous requirements management as well as the verification and validation of software systems
(a2Train and coach staff in the use of SQA process and tools, and ensure awareness of the latest industry standards and practices in software development
(a2Develop and document application test plans based on software requirements and technical specifications
(a2Continuously evaluate state-of-the-art standards and practices in software development (e.g. CMMI) and enhance relevant UTCFS practices as needed
(a2Ensure rigorous software documentation and configuration management procedures are practiced by the global engineering workforce
(a2Work closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure that software delivered to UTCFS meet the highest standards of quality, reliability and robustness


B.S. Computer Science or Engineering with 10+ years applicable experience, M.S. Computer Science or Engineering with 7+ years applicable experience.

(a2Extensive knowledge in software development, especially in relation to software systems that are integrated into real, safety-critical products. Familiarity with computer-aided software development environments and simulation tools (e.g. Cadence) is required. Extensive experience in Real Time Operating systems for embedded applications and hardware/software integration also required. Working knowledge of advanced quality systems (ACE) and statistical problem solving methods extremely beneficial.
(a2Experience in constructing automated testing scripts and the use of state-of-the-art tools for debugging.
(a2Strong preference for someone with software design/development experience in fire protection, security, or building automation industries.

In Fire Safety, the company designs, manufactures, integrates, installs and services fire detection and fixed suppression systems as well as portable fire extinguishers and fire fighting equipment. In Electronic Security, the company provides systems integration, installation and service of intruder alarms, access control systems, digital video surveillance and recording.

Must be willing to travel as needed. Travel is approximately 5-10%.
