Software Test Engineer — West Technology Services

Technology Services is an exciting and dynamic organization that provides quality and project services for West Technology. The Technology Services Software Quality department is responsible for maximizing application quality and stability through the implementation of change control processes, tools, and environments and the execution of software testing services. The Software Test Engineer will play a key role in providing testing services for enterprise applications developed using today?s state-of-the-art technologies as well as new and emerging technologies and implement new, innovative ways of providing quality testing services.

 

Operates under the general supervision of and receives assignments from a Lead Software Test Engineer or appropriate Senior Software Test Engineer.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

? Execute test cases/suites for assigned software releases.

? Analyze, document and submit all issues discovered during testing.  Verify and close issues resolved during the release cycle.

? Write test scripts through analysis of product specifications, software requirements specifications, and software prototypes.

? Update test cases when appropriate to reflect changes in product functionality or requirements.

? Actively participate in planning, estimation, and prioritization processes to ensure successful execution of testing activities.

? Partner and build growing relationships with others throughout the testing and software development organizations.

? Execute automated tests.  Participate in the development and support of automated tests.

? Keep abreast of current methodologies, technologies and tools and proactively seek ways to incorporate those into testing effort

? Effectively contribute and implement new ideas on improving the software testing process.

 
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

? 4-year degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar area, or equivalent experience.

? 1-3 years of software testing experience, including experience testing a complex, technical application.

? Experience with test automation and the use of automated testing tools (e.g., Compuware TestPartner, Segue SilkPerformer).

? A test mindset which is manifested in strong test planning and product assessment skills.

? Strong organization, analysis, and problem solving skills.

? Strong technical aptitude.

? Very effective oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.  Must be able to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences including software development teams and end-users.

? Ability to pay attention to details and to follow through on commitments.

? Ability to thrive in a changing environment and work on multiple projects with multiple priorities.

? Ability to work proactively and collaboratively as part of a team on a large software development project.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

? Experience with Compuware TestPartner and/or QADirector, Segue SilkTest and/or SilkPerformer

? Experience with keyword-based testing

? Software development experience in Java, J2EE, C#, .NET, and/or other state-of-the-art programming languages

? Experience writing test documentation (e.g., test requirements, plans, cases, scripts, etc.)

? Knowledge and interest in keeping abreast of current trends in software testing, especially as they relate to the technologies being used within West Technology

? Experience using defect/issue tracking tools (e.g., Tracker)

? Knowledge of software development life-cycle

? Knowledge of project management and test processes

  Ability to grasp complex technical, process, and proprietary information very quickly
