Space Structures Engineer

 

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. of Hampton, Virginia, (www.ama-inc.com) is actively seeking applicants with space structures engineering expertise.  The work to be performed is in conjunction with the President?s vision for NASA?s space exploration systems.  Candidates should be intimately familiar with a broad range of approaches for structural sizing.

 

 

Relevant experience/understanding in the following areas is desired.

? Fundamental knowledge in ?back of the envelope? structural sizing to address a range of conceptual vehicle design ideas.

? The ability to perform rapid zero and first order structural layout concepts and generate rapid mass estimates based on limited loading cases.

? The ability to create parametric sizing relationships from historical data, augmented by trends pulled from simple/moderately complex models created by the applicant.

? The ability to work with a team to provide and incorporate early structural design recommendations into conceptual vehicle discussion.

 

 

The applicants will be part of a team responsible for ?

? Conducting trade studies for Lunar and Mars missions

? Providing ?bottoms-up? mass estimates for overall structure or focused structural concern areas for a range of conceptual vehicles.

? Documenting results from the studies and communicating them on a daily basis with other team members at NASA LaRC and other NASA centers.

 

The work would be performed in Hampton, VA.


Education Requirements:

B.S./M.S. in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering. Applicants possessing advanced degrees and industry experience are also encouraged to apply.


Candidates should be highly motivated and possess excellent communication skills.
