Sr. Buyer/Planner

 

Establishes qualified supplier base to meet product requirements and orders materials that supports the master production schedule.  Sets up materials supply processes that support Lean manufacturing strategies.  Experienced in working in a GMP / ISO controlled environment.

 

Essential Job Functions: 

 

1. Executes the materials requirements plan to ensure a steady flow of material to support manufacturing. Specific duties include: analyzing material requirements; developing and implementing procurement strategies; scheduling deliveries; purchase order creation and management, etc.

2. Develops multiple sources of key components as required and discussed with Operations Manager as an ongoing materials strategy.

3. Establish material replenishment methods to support kanban inventory and Lean manufacturing.

4. Alerts Operations Manager to deviations related to price and delivery.

5. Coordinates with Finance, Quality and suppliers component failure reports for credit by supplier.

6. Be part of team to select and implement an ERP system that is efficient and effective for the company.

7. Maintains a good corporate image by conducting purchasing activities upon a solid foundation of honesty, integrity, and fairness. Maintains courteous, impartial, and objective dealings with suppliers.

8. Analyzes purchase requisitions; reviews each item for quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements.

9. Evaluates supplier performance on a regular basis. Reviews should include price, product quality, delivery and overall service level.

10. Maintains familiarity with quality standards and educates/informs suppliers.

11. Maintains effective communications with all departments.

12. Maintains various purchasing files; performs expediting on a regular basis; performs various administrative functions as required; processes defective (Return to Vendor) material in an expeditious manner.

13. Expected to be capable of working on the production floor at least one day per month to familiarize oneself with the use of the components and the assembly of the product.

Professional Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.

2. 3- 5 years of experience working in a purchasing/planning department in a GMP / ISO controlled environment.

3. Experience with MRP systems.

4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

5. Excellent follow through and reporting capabilities.

6. Excellent computer skills, with MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
