Technology development within our Global Mechanicals organization requires a senior level engineer with established finishing expertise.  The position will be responsible for defining the  finishing (aesthetic / cosmetic) process requirements for our client customers.  This position is also responsible for driving projects based on opportunities defined within the technology roadmap.  The position will support customer teams and manufacturing operations in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.  Finishing expertisein both metals and plastics is required, and engineering experience with plastic and metal manufacturing processes for consumer and industrial electronics industry desired.  The right candidate for this position will be the key player in delivering and proposing the finishing processes to fit our customers needs.

PURPOSE:
To assure Flextronics is providing innovative and cost effective finishing solutions that exceed customer expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Define and manage specific technology initiatives within the Flextronics Mechanicals Organization
Apply expertise to support plating, painting, and associated pre & post processes for manufacturing systems in various Flextronics locations
Participate in product development projects by providing innovative chemical & mechanical finishing solutions  for decorative and functional product requirements
Provide direction and justifications for Flextronics finishing equipment and supporting systems
Serve as in-house finishing expert to support customer product specifications and testing requirements.
Apply experience and work with outside entities on latest finishing technologies to develop well rounded Flextronics expertise
Support manufacturing projects and new product development initiatives at a general technical level by applying basic engineering and project managements skills
Actively participate in technology initiatives  with customers and across all Flextronics divisions
Provide expertise to support procurement and operations in the development of optimal finishing solutions in low cost regions of the world (internal & external partnership agreements)
Significant travel required (50+%)

Job Requirements:


REQUIREMENTS:
BS Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or equiv.
Advanced training and 6-10 years min. experience with various metal and plastic finishing technologies, including but not limited to electrostatic painting & plating, annodizing, chemical conversion, vacuum deposition, & UV curing.
Experience with laser / chemical etching, polishing, and other pre-finishing processes.
Experience with specifications, testing, and qualification of finishing and pre-finishing systems for various plastic and metallic substrates.
Experience establishing finishing solutions in developing regions of the world would be a plus.
Ideal candidate will provide professional engineering methodologies and apply them hands-on to the manufacturing environment.
General manufacturing engineering experience in operations, product development, or project management.
