Sr. Mechanical Lab Analyst

 

SUMMARY:

 

Provide mechanical reliability testing and evaluation of commercial and residential door operators and integrated door/operator systems. Support material / design change qualifications for existing products as well as New Product Development (NPD) Programs and Advanced Technology initiatives. This position will report directly to the Manager of Reliability and Testing Engineering. Travel up to 25 % is required. 

 

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Responsibilities:

? Perform reliability, performance, and material / component qualification testing for commercial and residential door operators and integrated systems.

? Design, fabricate, and install mounting fixturing required for test execution.

? Inspect test units and prepare reports of product operation at prototype and BETA-test sites.

? Prepare test reports and maintain the assigned portion of the Test Request and Reporting (TRR) System.

? Perform qualification testing for state and local building code certifications and third party agency listings (U.L., Factory Mutual, etc).

? Maintain R&D lab area, equipment operability, and calibrations.

? Cross-train with experienced operator, Rolling Steel, residential door, and dock equipment technicians.

? Develop and maintain test procedures and configuration management of lab SOPs.

? Fabricate prototype components and models for the testing of fit, form, function and finish

? Utilize Six-Sigma processes in performing and reporting product testing.

? Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Key Competencies:Proven and demonstrable mechanical fabrication skills including welding and use of machinist tools. Excellent technical writing ability and working knowledge of Microsoft Word / Excel and Lotus Notes. Proven self-starter with analytical and problem solving ability. Strong focus on working in a team environment, with excellent communication skills. Basic understanding of electrical control wiring, and hydraulic systems. Engineering print reading ability is required in both English and Metric measuring systems. Proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to learn SolidWorks and MiniTab Software. Ability to use power analyzers, digital chart recorders, PLC’s, multimeters, force gauges, sound meters, digital cameras, and hand tools.

 

Special Requirements:

Six-Sigma Green Belt training or ability to achieve Green Belt certification within six months.

 

Travel:

Up to 25%.

 

Education:

Must have at least an Associates of Applied Sciences in Design Engineering or a degree from an accredited college or equivalent or the ability to achieve a Bachelors or Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering within 4 years, with experience as a mechanical technician/machinist in a product testing and verification role. Prior experience with door products preferred.
