Successful candidates for this senior level Engineering position will be able to oversee the production of one or more complex coating projects simultaneously. Projects will be short-run production in nature, but development of new processes will also be required. Will need to prepare accurate cost estimates for the duration & of future work. This position will be supported by one or more coating technicians.

The Sr. Optical Coating Engineer will provide oversight and supervision of projects executed by other engineers. Will fulfill duties of the Group Leader in their absence. Will be required to improve processes (Continuous Improvement; Lean Events; 6 Sigma).; Will recognize hardware and process anomalies, and respond appropriately (hands-on repair or correction, or via assigning the problem to others). Will establish and maintain high product yields.

Requirements:
Candidates for this position should have an understanding of vacuum evaporation hardware, and have experience in the design of coatings to meet complex and difficult performance specifications; the incumbent will have a demonstrated ability to develop new designs consistent with the need to produce them in a production environment. The incumbent will be required to be familiar with one or more commercial Thin Film design and optimization packages as well as have knowledge of various types of UV, visible, and infrared substrates, their cleaning, and their optical properties is necessary. Candidate will need an extensive understanding of vacuum evaporation processes utilizing resistance and electron gun sources, includeing intimate familiarity with optical and crystal monitors and the associated controllers, residual gas analyzers (RGA), ion assisted deposition (IAD), and how these devices affect the quality of coated products. Current coating materials used include oxides, fluorides, and chalcogenides. The use of the group's array of optical and physical metrology instruments (used in a variety of geometries and polarization) is a part of the verification and reporting of coating performance in a data package to the customers. The individual needs to function efficiently in a rapidly changing environment. They should have the ability to work as part of a broader production team,& have good written command of the English language.

Education:
A minimum of an M.S. or equivalent experience in Optics, Physics, or a related field is required.

Experience:
At least 10 years of hands-on industrial experience in the design and production of complex Thin Film Coatings using evaporation.

Knowledge of other physical vapor deposition processes would be a plus.
