Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Safely perform complex, advanced, and specialized R&D assignments in functional ceramic components, involving analyzing, improving, installing, operating and/or solving problems concerning complex processes, equipment, and products in functional ceramic products. Although the incumbent receives technical directions from supervisor, incumbent carries out short-term project assignments under minimum supervision.

? Prepare/process ceramic and related materials including: (1) active involvement in experimental design, (2) routine laboratory activity including powder formulation, processing, forming, densification, and finishing, and (3) development work with non-routine R&D assignments such as design of fixtures for experimental set-up and establishing proper data acquisition system.
? Collect, analyze and report scientific & engineering data obtained from laboratory equipment such as microscopes, data acquisition system and technical service group as part of a coordinated group effort. Perform preliminary statistical data analysis and present results and maintain laboratory notebook according to accepted standards.
? Maintain laboratories and equipment including set-up, operation and trouble shooting of experimental equipment or instruments.
? Conduct in process inspection tests and provide feedback to process development team personnel.


COMPETENCIES:
Requires associate degree in an engineering, technical, or science related field or equivalent experience. Must have technical/mechanical skill and be capable of applying scientific principles. Hands on experience with general laboratory tasks, engineering procedures and equipment are required. Prior experience in ceramic powder processing, forming, and sintering is highly recommended. Computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics, and math/statistical procedures are also required. Also requires an aptitude to work on non-routine or new procedures and to work as a team member for the new product development. Prior experience in SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cells) is a strong plus.
