Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Coated Abrasives Division is actively seeking a Research Engineer who will lead product and process development projects at the Northboro Research & Development Center. The projects will require in-depth knowledge of key material and process parameters including non wovens, polymer formulations, web processing, and coatings. The candidate will work in a team environment and lead multiple research efforts. It is expected that the individual will work closely with marketing and operations teams and will have interactions across a broad range of levels, expertise, and geographic regions.

COMPETENCIES:
The skilled candidate will be proficient and proactive in the following:
? Formulation and screening of experimental compositions in the laboratory.
? Demonstrated ability to design and direct technician run experiments to develop and support pilot scale processes and ensure correlation of pilot processes into manufacturing processes.
? Assist in the transition of these new product concepts into product development and the associated processes through prototype design, qualification and transfer of technology into manufacturing for the commercial production of new products or intermediates.
? Responsible to work with manufacturing plants to scale-up and trouble shoot processes.
? Analysis and characterization of structure/property relationships in finished products.
? Working in a matrix organization, the candidate will be able to communicate and interact effectively with a range of people including business, manufacturing, and research managers, process engineers, R&D engineers, technicians, and operators.
? Document his/her accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations. The candidate will have the opportunity to present at technical conferences.
? Be creative with a problem-solving mentality and a hands-on approach to research.
? A strong technical background requiring a MS in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field coupled with at least 10 years of industrial experience or a PhD in science with 3 years industrial experience, with a broad knowledge of the polymer coatings industry including processing, non-woven materials, applications and characterization.
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work well on a large Research and Development Team.
? Industrial experience and training with the proper and safe handling of chemicals and operation of the aforementioned equipment.
? Must be highly motivated and able to work under very limited guidance with the utmost precision and care.
