Sr. /Staff Engineer

The Sr. /Staff Engineer is part of a team responsible for proposing, communicating and coordinating STB hardware requirements between senior management, design centers,  other departments, and major silicon vendors.

 

Specific duties include (but not limited too):

 

?  Being able to accept high level project architectural goals and determine cost effective and/or multi-sourced solutions to meet those goals.

 

?  Work with major silicon vendors to evangelize EchoStar?s architecture needs and get those needs incorporated into silicon.

 

?  Ensure that vendor solutions do not create sole-source problems.

 

?  Coordinate efforts with HW engineering, SW engineering, Logistics, Standards group, and Exec staff.

 

?  Technical areas include MPEG silicon, Modems, memories, and power supply.  

 

 

Minimum qualifications to be considered:

 

Education and Experience:

 

Senior Engineer:  BSEE Minimum from a four year College or University.  Four to eight years related experience and/or training.

Staff Engineer: BSEE Minimum from a four year College or University.  Five to ten years related experience and/or training.

7+ years in hardware design roles, 3+ years as a Responsible Engineer (primary focus for project development).

Skills:

Competencies include strong knowledge in MPEG2 audio, video, transport, MPEG4, and major audio and video standards are essential. Some experience with software development and vendor negotiation desirable. Significant digital hardware design experience, also some analog design as well as software design.  Must be highly detail oriented (when needed). Must also be able to argue/evangelize/defend high level concepts down to detailed component selections.  Be comfortable with vendor negotiations from high level concepts down to circuit implementation details.  Knowledge of DRM standards is desirable.
