Staff Scientist/Engineer - CBT Group

Triton Systems Inc., (TSI) www.tritonsystems.com, an applied materials R & D and prototype development firm in the Boston area, currently has an opening for a Staff Scientist/Engineer in our Countermeasure & Barrier Technology (CBT) group. Our group develops and commercializes technologies based on advanced materials, by applying a distinctive blend of technical, marketing and business expertise. We partner with world-renowned experts from industry and academia and global multinational firms to accomplish this goal.

The candidate will be part of a collaborative team focusing on development of polymers and polymer nanocomposites for military applications. Primary responsibilities include:

?Synthesize and functionalize nanoparticles for various polymeric systems
?Perform chemical synthesis of organic compounds and novel polymers
?Design and conduct experiments to synthesize polymer nanocomposites, both thermoplastic (acrylic based) and thermoset (cyanate ester based)
?Perform experiments in an independent & inventive manner
?Record lab activities and results in lab notebooks
?Prepare presentations and report results/trends
?Locate and interact with vendors/supplies of chemicals, polymers and fabrics
?Perform scientific literature searches as assigned

Requirements:

?B.S or M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Plastic Engineering or related field with 1 ? 2 years of laboratory experience
?Experience with acrylics, epoxies, cyanate esters and polyimides is desirable.
?Hands on experience in performing chemical synthesis in the lab
?Knowledge of nanoparticles (Silica, Alumina, Titania, nanoclays) and surface treatment/functionalization techniques
?Knowledge/experience with blending techniques (high shear mixers, extrusion etc)
?Ability to perform experiments independently and inventively Good oral and written communication skills
?Good record keeping of lab notebooks
?Efficiency in Windows operating environment (95,98,NT, or 2000) Office Suite products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Access) and Internet Browser.
?Ability to work independently as well as in a team
?The candidate must be a strong team player and have an ability to collaborate effectively on multiple projects
