System Technician - 001CPILST

SUMMARY

Operates and maintains transmitters, paging terminals, networking equipment and the connectivity of all of the above.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Installs, maintains and repairs transmitters, receivers and antenna systems. Performs testing, analysis, software upgrades and alignments using local and remote diagnostics.

 

Installs, operates and maintains paging terminal equipment, including Glenayre paging terminals, MVP (Modular Voice Processor) units and IRM equipment.

 

Performs testing and troubleshooting of company TELCO facilities.  Reports trouble to and coordinates repairs with TELCO vendors.

 

Installs, operates and maintains UPS systems, ensuring that batteries and capacity are sufficient to support the systems they supply. Coordinates repairs and interruptions of commercial AC power service with power vendors.

 

Installs and maintains assorted peripheral devices such as, DSU/CSU?s, multiplexers, printers, modems and other equipment in use in paging systems.

 

Ensures systems are operating in compliance with FCC, FAA, state and local laws and codes.

 

Provides written and verbal reports on system operation and maintenance.  Maintains logs and as-built documentation.

 

Responsible for being ?on call? as scheduled and on short notice to sustain operations.

 

Diagnoses customer complaints and corrects any situations; visits customer locations as needed.

 

Performs housekeeping duties at all equipment locations.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

?  Understanding of the function and operation of paging terminals, MVP (Modular Voice Processor) units and IRM equipment as applicable to the system within the scope of the technician?s maintenance responsibilities.

 

?  Understanding of specific transmitters and receivers as applicable to the system within the scope of the technician?s maintenance responsibilities.

 

?  Understanding of RF (radio frequency) technology, simulcasting and the design and concepts of satellite and land based paging systems.

 

?  Understanding of TELCO services and terminology and application in paging system design.

 

?  Ability to utilize service monitors, spectrum analyzers and other test equipment to perform measurements and analyze results.

 

?  General knowledge of PC?s and laptops, with working knowledge of software such as  communications, word processing, spreadsheet, database and DOS applications.

 

?  Understanding of FCC and OET65 rules and regulations associated with licensing and RF emissions at transmitter sites.

 

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Candidates must possess at least one of the following requirements:

?  Associate?s degree (A.A.) in Electronics or Telecommunications from College or Technical School or equivalent.

?  Military training in Electronics or Telecommunications

?  Two years related on-the-job training or experience

?  Equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and document procedures.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts of intermediate mathematics, basic algebra and geometry.

Valid Driver?s License required.
