Systems Engineer - NPOESS Cal/Val – Ozone Products

Position reporting to NPOESS Cal/Val Lead.

Candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating the NPOESS environmental data product calibration/validation efforts for ozone and the OMPS sensor. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of sensor science, product algorithms, and calibration and validation methodologies and data sources. Candidate should be familiar with or able to derive the measurement uncertainties associated with each data source as well as its applicability to NPOESS data product validation. Candidate will also develop computational software or algorithms necessary to carry out NPOESS data product validation. Familiar with commonly used radiative transfer models is desirable.

As part of coordinating the NPOESS data product validation effort, candidate will be expected to become familiar with environmental data product algorithms. Candidate will be part of the NPOESS Cal/Val team and will be required to establish good working relationship with customers, scientists, payload and algorithm developers, and software developers.


PhD in physics, astronomy, mathematics, earth sciences, or physical sciences. This requisition is for Grades 10-12 with final grade determination based on experience level. Specific grade assignment will depend on education level and applicable experience. Requires travel in CONUS.
