123796 Packet Technologies Principal Engineer
T-Mobile USA Network Evolution and Strategy is seeking a Principal Engineer with strong Packet based technologies (IP, ATM, etc.) experience to assist in the evaluation, specification, and proof of concept demonstration, of i) technologies associated with the evolution of the Mobile Core Network, and ii) Services supported by new as well as existing technologies.
The team:
- Investigates technologies for their suitability for T-Mobile USA, mindful of the need for a business case.
- Upon request, and usually with demanding timeframes, evaluates the costs and suitability of a full range of technologies for providing service level functionalities, or to solve a particular identified problem or challenge.
- Works with T-Mobile business facing organizations to gather service requirements, with a view to providing network capabilities that support those requirements.
- Provides expertise on new technologies, through a variety of media including technical newsletters, presentations and White Papers to other groups with T-Mobile.
- Provides guidance to T-Mobile Standards representatives for the successful execution of identified strategy.
As this is a small team performing an important and highly visible role, this requires a motivated, self driven contributor with an eye towards the big picture.
Required:
- 3 years+ experience in the use and application of packet technologies in support of real-time Voice (as opposed to Data) based services.
- 5 years+ experience in transport technologies below the IP level.
- 10 or more years experience of packet technologies in a team lead or architect role, preferably gained within a Voice Network, or similar Engineering environment with telecoms grade resiliency.
- Proven experience in authoring white papers, presentation to a less technical audience, and other forms of communication.
Preferred:
- Experience of Mobile Telecoms networks
- Experience of deploying packet technologies over Radio bearers
- Experience of creating and issuing vendor facing RFIs, RFPs, RFQs.
- Experience of investigation and evaluation of advanced or emerging technologies in Packet Networks.
- Experience in creation of IPR/patents.
- Experience of financial analysis of technical options
Education:
- Four year technical degree required, preferably Masters or PhD.
