TOOLING ENGINEER

 Functions

 

? Designs mold bases, insert sets and sub-inserts for a variety of plastic and die cast parts.

? Creates tooling and part drawings related to the construction of parts.

? Works independently without supervision.

? Completes complex design projects in a timely manner.

? Interfaces and makes suggestions to Glenair tooling vendors on design issues.

? Deals with outside vendors in the quoting and tool-build process.

? Makes tooling and process related improvement suggestions.

? Interfaces with Glenair die cast and plastic injection molders in order to determine how to design tooling for the best possible molding.

? Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

? At least two (2) years of CAD/CAM and Pro-Engineer or similar 3D software experience.

? At least two (2) years of mechanical engineering design work as a designer.

? Proficient in making recommendations relative to gate and runner size as well as location.

? Familiarity with engineering plastics, metals and die cast tools.

? Experience with working in a time sensitive production environment.

? Preferred prior work experience in a machine shop or tool room.

? A can-do attitude and able to work well with others. 

? At least two (2) years of college or applicable trade school.

? Basic writing and strong oral communication skills.

? Strong problem solving skills.

? Excellent shop math and computational skills.

? Computer literate with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and Outlook.
