Technical Designer-MECHANICAL/STRUCTURAL DESIGN Level 3

 DESCRIPTIONWichita, Kansas is the headquarters for Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., which was purchased by Onex Corp. from Boeing Commercial Airplanes in 2005. In addition to Wichita, the company has operations in Tulsa and McAlester, Oklahoma, and the United Kingdom. Spirit AeroSystems supplies commercial airplane assemblies and components, provides aftermarket support, and designs and fabricates tooling.

Job Description: Demonstrates a complete understanding of CAD design principles and concepts relative to the immediate group or organization and general knowledge of related or interfacing groups or disciplines. Practices wide application of company and industry design and documentation processes and standards to design minor components or portions or major systems. Develops complete major layouts of
engineering designs. Modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing processes. Gathers information, makes studies, prepares original rough sketches used by others to prepare final documentation. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using established organizational policies, practices and procedures for guidance.

Latitude: Independently determines and develops approach to accomplishing work statement. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities under general direction and provides work statement instructions to others. Assignments are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

Contact: Frequently coordinates design criteria and process development requirements with inter-organizational contacts, such as engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups; and outside customers and suppliers. Occasionally represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult issues associated with special projects.

Requirements Typically 6 or more years? related experience. Prefer an associate?s degree in an applicable engineering or manufacturing technology program such as mechanical or electrical design, CAD drafting, pre-engineering or manufacturing engineering.
