Tooling Engineer

MSA (Mine Safety Appliances Company) is the global leader in the development, manufacture, and supply of sophisticated safety products, instruments, and services that protect people?s health, safety, and the environment.  Our company has an immediate need for a Tooling Engineer at our facility in Murrysville, PA, located approximately 20 miles east of Pittsburgh.

 

This position reports to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering, Protection Products. Duties include:

?  Develop and design tools for manufacturing operations.

?  Participate in the development of computer models and prototypes for new tool designs or reverse engineering of existing designs.

? Create drawings and sketches to enable the building of tools.

? Troubleshoot tooling designs for proper operation.

?  Analyze existing tools and determine better methods of production.

? Prepare tool quotations and schedules for completion.

? Prepare tool job submittals for management approval.

? Prepare tool approvals for production and engineering acceptance.

 ? Facilitate tool start up in production facility.



Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:

General knowledge of  manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment such as:

?  Plastic, Rubber, and Metal tooling.

?  Secondary Operations (crimping, sonic bonding, heat staking, inserting, assembly, drilling, etc.).

?  Mold design and fabrication.

?  Machine design techniques.

?  Assembly techniques.

?  Reverse engineering techniques.

?  Lean manufacturing certification or training desirable.

Also necessary are the following:

?  Proven Project Management skills.

?  Proficient in the use of PC?s

?  Proficient in CAD drawing (any software ? Pro-E preferable).

?  Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

?  Ability to work in a team environment.

 

Education and experience required:

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, preferably from an ABET accredited college or university

Minimum 3 years experience in tool/machine design
