Training Specialist - Test Technician Instruction & Design
Job Requirements:
The Ideal candidate will possess five or more years of experience in design and development of power production electrical, test and protection-related training courses. Candidates must have experience working with various computer programs and applications to develop and deliver training materials in an instructional format that is easily understood by technical and nontechnical audience groups. An ideal candidate must have already demonstrated the following skills and abilities:
- Effective facilitation skills and public speaking skills, as well as, the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
- Project management skills that include the ability to manage multiple projects, establish timelines and adjust to changing priorities, schedules and deadlines.
- High level of proven proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
In addition, the successful candidate must have the following experience, skills or abilities, as listed:
- A strong desire to learn and work with new software applications.
- An excellent ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, have a thorough knowledge of grammar, and the ability to exercise attention to detail.
- Must be a self-starter, demonstrate a high level of initiative, and be willing to travel to all areas within the service area of the company.
Education:
Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or Business, in addition to the appropriate training and experience in the power production test technician craft, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferences:
Successful candidates should have a range of experience, from a minimum of five to a total of ten years as a Test Technician Instructor and Test Technician. Also, a thorough knowledge of company safety rules, regulations and policies, accident prevention rules, as related to power production departments and electrical generation is preferred.
Typical Responsibilities:
The successful candidate (Training Specialist) develops, delivers, and maintains test technician training materials, including, but not limited to, test technician training manuals, job aids, training data, and training evaluations.
The Training Specialist participates in the development of test technician and electrical training plans and training schedules and updates the Training Supervisor on project status and schedules.
The test technician Training Specialist assists the department management in the development and implementation of training strategies to achieve department goals and identifies and makes recommendations to the project team regarding issues and problems that arise in the course of the development and delivery of test technician training.
In addition, the Training Specialist acts as a liaison between the training department and business process owners, business subject matter experts, information technology departments, and various business unit representatives to ensure the successful development and implementation of the test technician training programs. The test technician Training Specialist is required to travel from a home base to other remote locations throughout the company, i.e. Eastern Sierra Nevada and Northern Sierra Nevada Hydro Generation Stations, and to 3rd party locations that could require an extended stay to deliver classroom instruction and consulting, as required.
