The creation of BP's new Alternative Energy (AE) business has opened up a number of exciting and challenging possibilities. The Transmission Manager will play a key role in taking responsibility for all transmission related activities for the Americas and be involved in a number of projects as well as existing assets to ensure transmission systems are adequate to deliver power to the necessary markets.  The Transmission Manager will work with government agencies on regulatory matters such as permits on right-of-ways and other transmission related issues.


Accountabilities Include:

Analyze transmission systems for projects and existing assets to ensure AE has sustainable ability to get power to the market.
Conduct required power flow, short circuit, transient and post-transient stability studies as required for projects and existing assets.
Provide all grid related input for the power market analysis.
Interface with BP Energy on all topics related to transmission.
Take responsibility for permitting for transmission interconnect right-of-ways.
Define regulatory issues and ways to manage those issues.
Work with the BP project and asset managers to administer 3rd party transmission contractors.


Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of Transmission Manager applicants must have:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
A minimum of 15 years of experience with power transmission system design, construction and operations.
A Bachelors Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
The proven ability to identify transmission related risks and implement actions to successfully mitigate those risks as demonstrated by greater than 85% of transmission projects coming in on-time, within budget and performed as planned.
A minimum of 5 years of experience managing transmission and regulatory contractors and consultants.
A track record of personal safety leadership and accountability for integrity management and a history of actively influencing the safe operations of 3rd party contractors as measured by OSHA Days Away From Work Cases of 0.35 or lower.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in permitting transmission systems.
The willingness and ability travel up to 50% of the time, including international travel within the Americas, in order to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

An advanced degree in Engineering or an MBA.
A Professional Engineer registration.
Experience defining and delivering a minimum of 2 annual business plans and budgets.
Experience working with federal and state regulatory authorities.
The ability to manage complex business relationships.
The promotion of open and effective communication among key stakeholders.
Knowledge of trends and drivers for the availability, performance and costs of transmission contracts and consultants.
