Windstream is seeking a Transport Engineer III/Sr. to fulfill the following duties:

 

A Staff engineering role that supports corporate wide projects and initiatives. Maintains in depth technical understanding of layer 2 Transport equipment and management systems used in the network. Supports evaluation and introduction of new equipment and technologies into the network. Performs economic/technical evaluation of similar equipment and its application to the network. Writes engineering guidelines for architecting and deploying network infrastructure. Provides technical/process support to engineers in the field. Interfaces with Product Marketing, Network Planning, Procurement and Operations in performance of work. Participates in and at times leads inter departmental teams. Manages large projects ensuring timely completion. Performs periodic testing of equipment in a lab environment. Utilizes and queries various support systems, element management systems and records systems required for analysis. Identifies process improvement strategies to ensure successful network deployment. Primarily responsible for optical, xWDM, SONET/TDM, ATM, Ethernet, ADSL and Layer 2 data networks supporting regional inter-office networks.

Minimum Requirements:
Broad understanding of telecommunications industry and related technologies. Knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines, accepted engineering practices and engineering economics principles. Computer software knowledge to include Microsoft Office, Custom Planning Tools and Databases. Strong analytical skills; project management ability; oral and written communication skills; and interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience:
College degree in Engineering or related field and 3-5 years professional level experience or 7 + years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.

Desired Qualifications:
In depth understanding of various network technologies including xWDM, SONET, TDM, ATM, DCS, Ethernet, IP & xDSL and associated records/support systems required to build and manage the network. Ability to stay current with the economical and technological developments in the industry. Experience managing large and complex projects. Working experience with current WINDSTREAM systems and processes desirable. CCNA certification a plus.
