Utility Coordinator, Engineer II (1257)

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The I-405 design team in Bellevue, WA has identified the need for three people to coordinate utility relocation and protection. These people must understand civil engineering design well enough to communicate the design to utility companies. They must also understand utilities well enough to effectively communicate the utility company needs to the design team. They will also need to communicate to the utility companies the urgency of moving through the various utility companies' processes to meet the time and schedule commitments that the design team is held to.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Utility Coordinators will help to identify existing, proposed, and upgraded utilities within the transportation corridors under construction. They will also identify utility conflicts and potential conflicts.

Performs conventional and moderately-complex engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within a discipline. The Engineer at this level is proficient in the utilization of standard engineering theories and practices and Company procedures. Some assignments involve Microstation or Inroads software applications. Willingness to travel to supplier, client, or construction site locations is expected.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.

Typical products may include detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses.

Provides support for other engineering activities as required. May supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance.

May be assigned to a project or organizational team, or as a lead engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate-size project.

Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
4-year degree in Civil Engineering and 5-8 years of related work experience including a background in utility and highway design. In addition, an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate is required.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Proficiency in utilizing Microstation and Inroads software packages are helpful. An outgoing personality with excellent communication and coordination skills are essential to success in this role.
