Vice President, Electrical Design

 

Working in consultation with the Senior Vice President, Development and Clinical/Regulatory Affairs, has primary management responsibility directly or through lower management levels for managing the overall electrical engineering activities of the Division.  Directs activities in support of Good Manufacturing Practice/FDA and ISO-9000 quality system compliance.  Accountable for the performance of subordinates or the work output of managed subcontractors.  Responsible for processes across organizational lines.  Assures that quality of services meets internal and external customer requirements.  Maintains a safe working environment and a strong customer focus.  Exercises judgment in planning and organizing work; monitors performance and reports status.  Sets goals, ensures that they are met and is responsible for continuous process improvement.  Recommends, interprets and implements corporate, division or organizationally specific policies and procedures to accomplish assignments and resolves a broad range of issues and problems; ensures employee compliance with such policies, practices and procedures.  Uses best business practices to ensure success in areas of responsibility.

 

Essential Duties:

 

1.  Accomplishing results through direct staff and teams, manages the implementation of electrical design, lead design and engineering activities, objectives and strategies.  Sets goals, ensures that they are met and is responsible for continuous process improvement.  Exercises judgment in planning and organizing work; monitors performance and reports status.  Uses best business practices to ensure success in CRMD's long term electrical engineering designs.

2.  Responsible for the development of staff: critiques, instructs, mentors, evaluates and coaches.  Accountable for the performance of subordinates or the work output of managed subcontractors.  Ensures employee compliance with St. Jude and CRMD policies and practices.  Establishes and manages departmental budget, hiring and promotions; participates in and approves staffing and organizational structure.

3.  Acting independently and within broad policy, has substantial authority to assign, prioritize, and review the documentation for all engineering designs either in support of new product or process development or performed in support of existing product  analysis.

4.  Oversees the resolution of product/process issues identified throughout product lifecycle for multiple product lines. 

5.  Investigates major customer electrical engineering design issues and implements corrective actions, which may result in changes to product design, manufacturing or field notification.

 

Required:

 

A Bachelor?s degree in Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent.  Typically a minimum of at least fifteen (15) plus years of progressively more responsible high-reliability electrical design work experience in a high technology manufacturing environment is required.  Technical experience includes a comprehensive working knowledge of Industrial Engineering tools and development processes.  A minimum of six plus years of demonstrated experience at a supervisory/managerial level is typical.  Strong functional management of groups greater than 75 people across multiple sites is required.  Ability to partner with other engineering groups to reach a product release.
