Director, Technical Operations

 

Under the guidance of the VP Marine Operations the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, economical and reliable operation of assigned vessels with particular focus on assuring continued performance of all onboard equipment and systems. Requires: close liaison with vessel's senior officers, office staff members, and Classification Society personnel, monitoring parts and material acquisitions and overseeing planned, as well as emergency, capital improvements, maintenance and repair and refurbishment activities including coordination of assistance provided by manufacturer and technical repair specialists.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
?Attends assigned vessels as required to have an in-depth knowledge of current condition of vessel.

?Reviews vessel reports to monitor operating condition and efficiency.
?Reviews all vessel logs/records including; engine, machinery and waste management logs to insure: compliance with rules, regulations and that company policies and procedures are being followed in terms of equipment maintenance and inspections and environmental practices.
?Inspects vessel planned maintenance programs and machinery histories. Makes recommendations for improvements in maintenance cycles; in coordination with vessel?s technical staff develops equipment change-out plans.

?Periodically reviews and tests competence of withstanders to ensure proper level of training is being maintained. Recommends changes in training program when deemed appropriate.

?Oversees management of AMOS W, vessel inventory and purchasing system and training of o/b staff personnel in use of the system. Control system nomenclature to ensure system integrity. On monthly basis reviews vessel costs and accruals to determine vessel?s adherence to budget and possible required modifications to ship?s budget. Advise shore side management as appropriate.
?Monitors that purchase requisitions are accurate and contain the information necessary to meet operational and quality criteria as well as to maintain part stocks at approved levels.
?In cooperation with ship?s staff prepares ship specifications for capital projects, refurbishments and dry-docking events. Coordinates the projects, refurbishments and dry-docking, including the ordering of owner furnished material, scheduling tech reps or specialists, sending specifications for quotation, evaluating bids, recommendation of contractors/vendors/dry-dock, negotiates contracts, on site management of project, maintains cost records and reports to management as directed, negotiates change orders and the final costs.
?Maintains ongoing knowledge of current conditions of assigned vessels. Keeps upper management notified of any work that may require modifications to budgetary plans or that may have an impact on operations.
?Assists in preparation of ship fuel and technical budgets, capital improvement projects, refurbishments and dry-dock budgets.
?Provides technical consultation to vessel as required during routine and emergency situations.

?Reviews damage and incident reports to ensure proper and timely corrective actions are being taken.

?Coordinates regulatory inspections/surveys with Class and Flag State. Monitors activity to correct any deficiencies and plans resolution in timely manner to safety regulatory requirements and minimize impact on schedule.

The Person:
Candidates must have a minimum of ten years engineering experience onboard vessels or shoreside. Candidates must possess of a valid Marine Engineer's License, or have equivalent experience. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture and experience with Class and maritime regulatory bodies and AMOS W is preferred. Prior experience in managing complex ship modifications projects and in particular with cruise ships is very desirable.  It is desirable that the candidate have the right to live and work in the USA.
