Chemist (Environmental Metals Chemist)
The King County Environmental Lab is a beautiful state-of-the-art facility located on the water in Seattle, Washington. The lab supports a wide range of King County wastewater treatment and environmental programs for a wide variety of environmental analyses. This ELS II position is a mid-level position in the Trace Metals Unit and is responsible for preparing, analyzing, interpreting and reporting a variety of environmental sample matrices using EPA methods for ICPMS and/or ICP, CVAA and/or CVAF.
primary Job functions INCLUDE:
? Using standardized procedures: prepare, analyze, document and report trace metals sample analyses by ICP-MS and other methodologies such as ICP-OES, CVAA and/or CVAF.
? Perform and interpret required QA/QC procedures; recommend, perform and document corrective actions and possible impacts to data quality.
? Prepare, update, and review written standard operating procedures (SOPs).
?Participate in rotation of analytical assignments amongst ICP-MS, ICP-OES, CVAA and CVAF.
?Assist Laboratory Project Managers and customers determine appropriate detection limits and regulatory methodology for their scope of work; write and review Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs).
QUALIFICATIONS:
? A bachelor?s degree in chemistry or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required
? At least four years of experience in environmental trace metals analysis, at least two of which was performing sample preparation and instrumental analysis using ICP-MS methodology and instrumentation.
? Proficiency in the theory, application, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of ICP-MS and other trace metals analytical modalities such as ICP-OES, CVAA, and/or CVAF.
? Working knowledge of EPA and other accepted methodology for environmental trace metals analyses including QA/QC principles and practices.
