Responsibilities:
The candidate will support the effective use of the EHS Management System for the Biochem Business Unit in SSF. This person will, under the direction of the BBU EHS Manager, be responsible for the execution and supervision of ongoing environmental, safety and health programs for the site to ensure a safe environment in accordance with the goals and objectives of the BBU. He/she will organize and administer Safety Improvement Team activities. The candidate will develop and disseminate preventive information, conduct training, provide consultations and oversee vendors providing technical services. He/she will provide high quality and cost effective project management, analytic support services and technical expertise for a broad array of issues. The candidate will study and interpret regulations and standards, conduct audits, identify problems, develop solutions and workings with client group representatives and implement resolution. The Specialist will maintain safe facilities by providing information relevant to the design and construction of facilities and the installation of equipment. He/she will provide safety information by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and trends and publishing reports. The candidate will investigate incidents, identify root causes and hazards, develop preventive measures and practices and draft and recommend policies and procedures. He/she will analyze work environments as appropriate for hazardous conditions and respond on a routine basis to emergency codes and advise the First Response Team on chemical hazards and exposures. The Specialist will establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, with a focus on quality of service to internal and external customers. He/she will function as the alternate lead for the site wide building evacuation program.

Requirements:
A Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in safety, science, engineering or a related field is required. The candidate must have 2-5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified in this job description. It is preferred that the candidate be a Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist. Working knowledge of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18000 and behavior based safety is strongly preferred. Excellent skills using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access and Filemaker Pro are required. Knowledge of federal laws and regulations governing health, safety and environmental matters including Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Proposition 65, California Administrative Code and the California Code of Regulations is essential. The ability to coordinate a variety of tasks and assignments and communicate effectively with employees, management, contractors and regulatory agencies is required.
