Microbiologist - Water and Food

Job Description:

Conduct microbiologic tests on Drinking Water, Food and other environmental samples and communicate results to clientele.

Duties:

* Performs test on drinking water, food and other environmental samples using EPA, Standard Methods and AOAC test methods.

* Prepares media for analytical tests.  Autoclave media and completed samples.

* Identifies micro-organisms by conducting microscopic examinations.

* Documents and reports quality results by completing reports and logs; communicating results and required adjustments to manufacturing clients.

* Accomplishes quality and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.

* Assists in the updating and development of laboratory procedures to increase customer satisfaction.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

Required: B.S in Microbiology or equivalent field of study. Analytical thinking, ability to schedule multiple analytical methods, excellent communication skills (verbal and written).  Detail orientated. Willingness to learn new analytical methods as needed.

Desired: 2+ years experience in drinking water, food or environmental analyses. Experience in microscopy, Algae identification, Crypto/Giardia analysis; EPA, Standard Methods and AOAC protocols.  Experience with Washington State a plus.  Sense of humor is helpful.
