The CFO/ Controller is responsible for managing New Horizon?s accounting, compliance and human resource departments which oversee general accounting and cash management systems, benefit management and human resource compliance as well as maintaining control systems, regulatory and compliance obligations, master agreements and contracts, and franchise requirements.  The CFO/ Controller will also assist the executive team in merger and acquisition (M&A) activities.Responsibilities and Duties

Accounting and Financial Reporting:Manages Accounting department staff; responsible for the hiring and training of staff; ensures their performance meets standards; and completes performance appraisals in a timely manner.Conducts timely month-end close of the books including, account reconciliation, credit card reconciliation, purchase order reconciliation, commissions and charge-backs, inventory, accruals, depreciation/ fixed assets, appropriate journal entries and adjustments, along with producing month-end IS, BS and CFS reports.Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, anticipated cash requirements and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.

4. Provides specialized management reports as requested.Provides consistent compliance with generally acceptable accounting principals, as well as established company policies and procedures.Responsible for monitoring and improving all internal accounting controls, processes and procedures.Minimizes tax burden.Oversees payroll processing.Manages preparation of company payroll.Establishes and monitors procedures for calculating commissions, payroll processing, and paycheck distribution.  Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.

Corporate Governance and Compliance:Manages Regulatory and Compliance department staff; responsible for the hiring and training of staff; ensures their performance meets standards; and completes performance appraisals in a timely manner.Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local income and payroll tax regulations.Ensures proper and timely 401(k) tax reporting.Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies including the Texas Workforce Commission and Department of Information Resources.Prepares monthly franchise fee calculation reports and other franchise reports as required.Interfaces with internal and external auditors as required. Ensures that the funds of all companies are kept separate, and that there is no co-mingling.Ensures data integrity of all Finance Department system files.Prepares the annual Federal Tax Return and Texas Corporate Franchise Tax Return.Develops and maintains a master schedule for the Finance Department which coordinates timely payments of business taxes, licenses, insurance fees, and other regulatory requirements and reporting.Maintains master file copies of leases, vendor service contracts, and other business agreements.Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.

Human Resources:Manages Human Resource function; responsible for the hiring and training of staff; ensures their performance meets standards; and completes performance appraisals in a timely manner.Manages and administers company benefit plan and updates including health, dental, 401(k) and supplemental coverage(s).Responsible for annual review and update of company handbook.Ensures company is compliant in all areas of Human Resources and employee administration.Oversees employee files and maintaining of employee records.Ensures proper handling of applications, resumes and job interviews.

Corporate Development:Works with Staff in creation and preparation of annual budget for departments and the business overall.Assists President/ CEO with relations with banks and other financial institutions.Supports the creation of business plans and financial documentation during Merger and Acquisition negotiations.Ensures financial systems in place support the requirements of the business including future and anticipated demand.Assists in the development and implementation of new business processes and systems to improve efficiencies and add value.

General: Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED/PREFERRED SKILLSBachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field is required.Minimum of 5-7 years accounting experience is required.

3. Previous experience as a controller or managing an accounting department is preferred.

4. CPA designation required.

5. Strong leadership skills.Proven skills in organizing work, attending to detail, giving direction, managing time effectively, and handling multiple tasks in a timely manner.Proven ability to make intelligent decisions under pressure; display good judgment, initiative and analytical skills.

8. Skills in collaborating with internal and external resources.

9. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

10. Must be deadline and results-driven.

11. Proficient in the MS Office Suite, QuickBooks and using the Internet is required.

12. Experience with Great Plains or another mid level accounting package is preferred.

13. Experience working within a franchised business is preferred.
