Director, IT Architecture

Job Description Description: The Director, IT Enterprise Architecture will act as Biogen Idec's enterprise architect, providing technical leadership in the design, definition and planning of Biogen Idec's IT architecture and strategy. This position will report to the Biogen Idec's CIO and will interact across Biogen Idec's IT and functional business groups to analyze the existing enterprise architecture state and to define the target goal state and technology roadmap to that state.. This role combines technical ability, business acumen, and an excellent understanding of technology trends.

The enterprise architect will own the enterprise layer of Biogen Idec's IT infrastructure, ensuring interoperability at the user domain layer and responsiveness to business needs at the discreet solutions layer.

The enterprise architect will focus on 3 primary imperatives:
1)Improve the extraction and utilization of data to provide enterprise wide decision support.
2)Identify and champion the implementation of enterprise wide application components.
3)Lead the movement from automated silos to full process integration, ensuring that organizational integration requirements are met

With a focus on these imperatives, the responsibilities of this position include:
Lead enterprise wide applications, data, and technology planning, engineering, architecture protocol analysis, and development of technical standards and interface applications
Ensure the strategic alignment of architectural standards and guidelines with Biogen Idec's business mission
Support technology planning at the business domain and solutions level
Develop and implement migration plans for defined architectural components
Research and identify best practices around industry technologies and their relevance to IT at Biogen Idec
Train and disseminate architectural standards, guidelines, and direction throughout Biogen Idec's global IT organization

Qualifications
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, and a Business or IT-related advanced degree, with at least 10 years of technical leadership experience in designing and applying technology to produce integrated, enterprise-wide solutions that meet business needs.

The required background and skill sets should include the following:

Demonstrated technical leadership experience, which has included the successful development and implementation of technology roadmaps for large, enterprise-wide technology transformation initiatives
Broad experience across technology areas such as EAI, ETL, DW, BI, ERP, and CRM
Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, with strong understanding of the relationship between applications, databases, operating systems, processing platforms, storage platforms, and networks
Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise wide data maps
Experience using structured modeling tools to define process flows, interactions, activities and functional code flows across an enterprise architecture
Strong knowledge of software development life cycle methodologies, change management, and project management
Experience developing IT solutions within Biotechnology/BioPharma domains, with strong knowledge of IT validation practices
Excellent communication and executive level influencing skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with IT leadership teams, and with the ability to build coalitions across the IT and business organizational matrix

Education
BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering, and a Business or IT-related advanced degree
