The Director of Product Development is responsible for the full life cycle of software development from idea inception to product delivery and technical support.  The position will lead all aspects of the development organization coordinating activities with internal teams, customers and vendors across all areas of the company.  You will establish and drive the implementation of software architectures, manage and optimize the local network environment, recommend and supervise the hosted solution environment.  This position has a high level of customer interaction through providing direct customer feedback, coordination of customer user groups and providing input to corporate strategy.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The ideal candidate is someone with diverse technical knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to everyday situations.  You should possess broad management experience as well as extensive knowledge of software development skill sets.  In your role reporting to the Senior VP of the organization you will provide feedback to senior management and interact with various other SunGard business units. You should have a demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve short and long term goals under broad supervision and have proven experience mentoring the growth of personnel within your teams.

 

Other Responsibilities:Provide active day to day leadership to the development teamCollaborate closely with other business unit functions to provide the highest level of customer service to both customers and prospectsSelect and recommend tools that will provide the fastest and most successful time to marketManage and improve the software development processManage and improve the business analysis processManage the IT function for the company, taking an active role in ensuring the security of systems for both the company and our customersUse your hands on technical experience to foster the growth of the technical team aligned with the corporate objectivesInterface with other SunGard business units to accomplish business objectives and leverage their experience to assist with the growth of our companyPractical application of processes and procedures to accomplish company objectivesPlan and formulate aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.Review and analyze proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.Approve and submit proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocates funds from department budget.Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.Negotiate contracts with consulting firms to perform research studies.Perform staff evaluations and prepare performance documents for direct reports.Practice and adhere to behavior supporting SunGard?s Core Values and Vision Statement.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

At a minimum, applicants must possess:12 + years of successively more responsible positions within the software development industry working with business critical commercial applications5 + years management experience in software development technical domains, with a focus on product development or software development managementStrong team-building experience based on mentoring and empowering team members3 + years managing partner relationships and external development groups3+ years experience managing products using Microsoft .NET technologies5+ years experience managing database driven transaction based software applications, experience with Oracle a plusStrong database management methodology experienceSolid understanding of current development methodologies, best practices, automated testing processes, development environment management, application design and data management tools.Experience developing, implementing and enforcing software development methodologies and policiesStrong understanding and experience applying project management methodologies
