Executive Director, Academic Computing
The USC Information Technology Services is seeking a Executive Director, Academic Computing to join its team.
JOB SUMMARY:
Seeking an individual who will be responsible for maintaining USC at the forefront of academic computing in teaching, learning, and research through the creation of policies and practices needed to enable a federated organizational structure to provide optimal IT services and implement the information technology (IT) vision. Facilitate federated-model of information technology services necessary to fulfill University strategic vision, Vice Provost, ITS vision, and needs of customer constituencies. Direct the operations, services, programs, projects and activities of the Academic Computing (AC) office. Oversee organization of information technology (IT) customer committees. Develop and implement an assessment plan for quality of IT services. Has responsibility to audit implementation of and compliance with mandates of the federated-model. Evaluate new IT technology for deployment within units and across the University. Report to Vice Provost of Information Technology Services (ITS).
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the oversight of IT services provided University-wide and IT advisory customer committees. Oversee development and dissemination of IT mandates as identified by customer committees and Vice Provost, ITS. Promote a flexible, federated-model for the IT University environment through the use of IT best practices and open standards. Define policies and practices needed to enable a federated organizational structure to provide optimal IT services and guidelines needed to implement the IT vision.
The incumbent will oversee assessment of quality, cost effectiveness, and customer satisfaction of IT services using customer committees, customer surveys, interview with stakeholders, and other resources. Develop and implement an assessment plan for quality of IT services. Analyze and evaluate customer satisfaction assessment data and provides recommendations for improving customer services. Review service definitions and pricing of ITS services and provides recommendations for changes to existing services and new service offerings. Provide summary report to Vice Provost, ITS and annual report to Provost. Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans for the AC office in collaboration with the Vice Provost, Information Technology Services. Recommend goals and objectives for the AC office to the Vice Provost of Information Technology Services. Plan, implement and directs operations, services, programs, projects and activities for the AC office. Oversee AC department that evaluates new IT technology for potential deployment at the University. Review and evaluate proposals from units for funding, equipment, and/or staffing. Provide appropriate resources for small scale evaluation and field trials.
In addition, the incumbent will ensure effective communication with University IT customer committees, customer constituencies, AC staff and management, and other directors within the Vice Provost, ITS office. Oversee development of staff skills including listening, communicating, presenting, and facilitating as needed to fulfill the AC offices? mission. Provide consultative resources for troubleshooting of customer issues. Liaise with central IT services for problem resolution. Serve as key contact for exchanging of information among unit IT organizations. Establish and maintain appropriate network of professional contacts. Maintain currency with professional organizations and publications. Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, etc. Represent AC office on customer committees and with K-12 schools in USC family of schools. Serve as representative for Vice Provost, ITS and University on IT matters as requested. Develop and implement security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinate security activities with University Public Safety Department. Promote and maintain standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintain knowledge of University?s crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensure dissemination of security related information to staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s degree with ten years directly relevant experience in specialized field. Thorough knowledge of management principles, budgeting, finance and applicable laws/regulations. However, combined experience/education may substitute for minimum education.
