XBRL-US: Executive Director

 

XBRL-US is seeking to appoint an Executive Director ? an individual who will preferably possess experience working with associations in order to successfully carry out XBRL-US? strategic initiatives, including organic growth, and a broad range of managerial responsibilities.

 

The successful candidate will work for the XBRL-US Steering Committee and report to its Chair. The Executive Director of XBRL-US is responsible for managing delivery and achievement of the XBRL-US Strategic Plan and Tactical Program.  The Executive Director will be empowered to make business commitments in line with the delegation of authority agreed upon by the Steering Committee. 

 

XBRL-US is hosted and supported by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), one of the founding members of XBRL International. It is the intention of the AICPA to assist XBRL-US in transitioning to becoming a successful independent, not-for-profit entity. As XBRL-US is currently a special committee of the AICPA, the Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the organization complies with relevant AICPA policies while meeting the needs of XBRL-US? distinct membership.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 Managing the transition of XBRL-US from the status of being a Special Committee of the AICPA to being a fully independent not-for-profit entity Executing the strategy, growth and management of XBRL-US Significantly growing and retaining the XBRL-US membership including delivery on the value proposition to the members Identifying and implementing revenue opportunities with the agreement of the USC Making public presentations directed at increasing awareness and supporting the initiatives objectives Managing staff in support of the Chair of the Steering Committee, the USC and related working groups Developing and executing a marketing and communication plan including oversight of the XBRL-US website and supporting collateral Preparing budgets and operational plans for the timeliness, cost control, and quality of the collateral deliverables Providing the stewardship required over the business operations and reporting to the association regularly on its financial conditions. Overseeing the management of conferences and training programs.

 



Requirements:

 Business knowledge of XBRL and/or broad-based knowledge of financial or business reporting Bachelor?s degree with five to ten years experience in business development and management Experience, skill and confidence as a public speaker Ability to manage multiple business relationships and resolve conflicting priorities of member organizations in a win-win manner Business development skills Ability to ?cold call? potential member / outreach targets Ability to negotiate contracts advantageous to XBRL-US Ability to create and demonstrate leadership with teams Proven collaborative team leadership Able to travel (approx 10% - 15%, with transient peaks) Comfortable working in virtual and collaborative environment

 

 

Preferred Skills

 Experience in association management Confidence and experience in association and public entity relations Ability to craft marketing and external communications materials Multi-lingual Knowledge of XBRL Understanding standards adoption process

About XBRL

 

XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language) provides computer-readable tags to be applied to individual items of financial and other business reporting data in business reports, transforming that data from simple blocks of text into information that can be understood and processed automatically by computer software.  XBRL is an important tool for integrating the Business Reporting Supply Chain. It offers cost savings, greater efficiency and improved accuracy to all those involved in preparing, analyzing or communicating business information.

XBRL adoption is moving ahead quickly. There are approximately 20 formal XBRL jurisdictions around the world. In the US, the Securities and Exchange Commission is running a pilot program to evaluate XBRL and the FDIC has reported major success with its use of XBRL for banking regulation.  In Europe, the Dutch government is using XBRL extensively in three important reporting chains:Reporting of taxes; for instance profits tax, wage taxes, value added taxes (VAT) and income taxes Reporting of annual accounts Reporting of economic statistics

 

The UK recently announced that XBRL would become mandatory for tax returns and accounts from 2010.  The Bank of Japan is using XBRL for gathering data from financial institutions.  China, Belgium, Korea, Singapore and Spain are among other countries which are also using XBRL or have recently announced projects to introduce it.

XBRL-US oversees the development of technical standards and works for specific adoption in the public and private sectors in the US markets, and conducts member and outreach events for both local and international audiences.
