General Manager - Furniture manufacturer

Company Background

The company is an Atlanta-based wholesale manufacturer of custom, high-end, wood counter tops marketed through kitchen and bath dealers, custom home builders, Home Depot?s Expo Design Centers and other trade firms.  It was started in 1998 and has been growing at a rapid pace ? we will generate $4.0 million in sales in FY06 with the realistic objective of achieving $20 million annually in 4-5 years.  The company has 34 full-time employees and operates out of a 33,000 square foot facility.

 

Job Description

The General Manager is responsible for running the entire operation with the following primary objectives:

 

(1) Grow sales by focusing on the highest-potential markets (builders, kitchen & bath dealers, and other markets).

(2) Develop marketing and sales strategies that maximize sales growth.

(3) Maximize profitability through developing pricing strategies and managing costs.

(4) Recruit, hire and retain high-quality employees.

(5) Improve operational efficiency to minimize expenses and maximize throughput

(6) Provide top-quality customer service including inside sales, quoting, sales order management, customer concerns and warranty management.

(7) Ensure that monthly financial statements are produced in a timely and accurate manner.

(8) Communicate regularly with the Board of Directors and have quarterly review meetings.

 

Skills/Requirements

-  Must be able to multi-task and discuss detailed issues as well as higher-level strategic issues

-  P&L experience with a proven track record of growth

-  Ability to analyze market segments and develop an appropriate sales and marketing strategy

-  At least five years management experience in a production environment

-  At least five years experience managing a staff of 5 people or more

-  Proven interest in an entrepreneurial environment

-  An understanding of the life of a small business

-  MBA a plus but not required
