Summary:A Unix/Middleware Systems Engineer with 3-5 years of Unix system administration experience.  This position will provide 7x24x365 2nd level technical systems and applications infrastructure support for United's eCommerce Unix distributed systems. This individual has excellent trouble shooting skills and analytical skills in order to react to alerts from our monitoring tools as well as Service Desk notifications to resolve incidents.  Responsibilities:Principle responsibilities include the following:- Monitor external and internal enterprise monitoring tools for system alerts notifying the 2nd level team of system and application problems- Perform analysis and trending of ecommerce applications/services from monitoring data- Investigate and troubleshoot Incident tickets (Severity 1-4) for all eCommerce environments- Engage and collaborate with other 2nd level support teams for incident resolution- Escalate incidents to 3rd level support and management as needed, remaining engaged for knowledge management and documentation- Provide support for user administration and repeatable work requests- Provide 7x24 support for the eCommerce Quality Assurance teams and staging environments Follow standard practices and procedures and eCommerce operational documentation

Tools, platforms and technologies:- Sun Solaris 8/9/10- Enterprise Monitoring Tools (e.g. Sitescope, Gomez, BMC)- Apache and Iplanet web servers- BEA Weblogic- Java Tomcat- Unix shell scripting/Perl- SAN Architecture- Incident/Problem Management Tools (e.g. Peregrine Systems) - Design/Architecture of distributed computing environments and highly available (HA and RAS) systems - Well versed in Internet technologies Education:- BS in computer science or related field or equivalent experience  Experience:- Typically requires a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience Skills:- Strong technical and problem-solving skills- Excellent knowledge of distributed computing technologies especially in the eCommerce/Internet space- Strong customer focus and service oriented individual- Ability to work shift work; this position is staffed 7x24x365.- Ability to independently problem solve and be self-directed- Ability to work under the general supervision of a Lead Sr. Systems Engineer
