Accounting Supervisor

Location: Houston, Texas, United States Shell Oil Products US (SOP US) is a leader in the marketing of fuels, lubricants, coolants, services and solutions to consumer and business-to-business customers in automotive commercial and industrial sectors. Shell Oil Products US. is currently seeking a Accounting Supervisor for its Houston, Texas location.


Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for providing first-line supervision and leadership for a staff of 6 employees in the General Accounting (GA) group. The GA group supports the non-hydrocarbon activities for SOP US, MOTIVA, Shell Residual companies, and Shell Pipeline under the appropriate IFRS and GAAP reporting requirements.
 
Key Accountabilities Include:
- Ensuring timely and accurate financial recording
- Performing control functions during closing: reviewing and approving manual journal entries, monitoring account balances, variance analysis
- Reviewing and monitoring monthly closing checklist; approving daily tasks upon completion
- Verifying that all activities abide by the Group Financial Accounting Policies
- Ensuring SOX, IFRS and GAAP compliance
- Reviewing post closing activities: financial reporting, account reconciliations, and audit requests
- Reviewing and signing off on status of accounts database in compliance with the Group requirements
- Developing and maintaining the metrics that drive the performance for General Accounting group
- Performing supervisory/personnel functions for direct reports i.e. GPA & IDP process, coaching and counseling
- Partnering with other departments within the Controller?s organization to develop staff and obtain cross functional training
- Participating in leadership and accounting policy trainings
- Practicing company core values and Enterprise First Behaviours
- Cooperating with internal and external auditors in providing timely responses
- Focusing on continuous process improvements
- Assisting business units on data requests
- Participating in special projects

Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you must possess a Bachelor Degree in Accounting (MBA and/or CPA required) and have approximately 10 or more years experience in the financial accounting field and management.
