Assistant Controller - National Real Estate Company

Assistant Controller who will manage the work activities of an accounting team. This position will be responsible for oversight and development of staff, as well as the reporting requirements of a portfolio of properties. In addition, the position may have the responsibility of overseeing the requirements for a national client. Ensures that cash/accrual basis books are properly maintained; Reviews and approves all journal entries for accuracy and completeness; Reviews system prepared reports and supporting schedules for accuracy; Reviews management fee calculations and ensures related invoices are paid in a timely manner; Maintains resource usage of team to clients for internal cost allocations; Ensures all debt, real estate taxes, sales taxes and owner distribution payments are made in a timely manner, and internal databases are updated and maintained; Actively participates in the instruction of accounting training classes; Troubleshoots problems and issues that arise; Coordinates and oversees external audits as required by clients; Completes annual staff performance evaluations, semi-annual updates and establishes performance goals; Continuously evaluates and supports internal controls and makes recommendations for improvements; Directs the development and maintenance of planning and budgeting processes, general and cost accounting, internal auditing, and preparation of financial and management reporting as required by client; Plans staffing assignments to create balanced workloads and ensure adequate coverage at all times; Delegates work to staff and accepts responsibility for timely and accurate completion of staff’s work; Ensures the responsibility of each team member within the work group is met; Acts as a client liaison to ensure all client requests are processed timely, accurately and with a high level of professionalism to guarantee client satisfaction; Coordinates and leads the transitions of properties; Proactively communicates with Senior Management to ensure they are informed of all activities; Other duties may be assigned.
