Assistant Director, Office of Finance

Reporting to the Director of Finance, and working closely with the Executive Vice President and other senior members of the financial team, the Assistant Director is responsible for effecting innovative approaches to and managing the long-range financial planning and funding policies of the Institute; as well as the short-term

financial plans to support Institute and departmental needs.

 

Will design, lead, and participate in studies to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the unit; gather financial and business information from various systems; perform moderately complex financial analyses; prepare narrative and presentations for management; and design solutions for internal/external clients. Will also informally coach and manage people, and/or provide project leadership within an area of responsibility.

 

Requirements:  a master's degree in management or business administration, a minimum of three years' experience in an analytical position in support of finance function, experience framing and modeling business and financial problems, and at least two years' experience preparing financial briefings and analysis for presentation to senior management.  Should have demonstrated success in organizational and change leadership.  Position requires mental agility; flexibility; and the ability to adapt to and work effectively in a variety of situations, understanding and appreciating different and opposing perspectives on issues and adapting one's approach as the requirements of a situation change.  Seek individual with excellent analytical, strategic-thinking, and problem-solving skills who demonstrates proven ability to research, formulate, and present arguments on a variety of administrative and institutional issues.  Must be able to influence outcomes working with diverse constituents at all levels of the organization, including department administrators, senior management, and the governing board.  Must also demonstrate a concern for meeting or surpassing MIT's standard of excellence.
