Assistant Staff Auditor, Corporate Audit Services
Corporate Audit Services (?CAS?) is the independent, objective assurance and consulting arm of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (?the Company?) that is designed to add value and improve operations, and to help the Company accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the risk management, control, and governance processes. The internal audit activity evaluates risk exposures relating to the Company's governance, operations and information systems, in relation to:
Effectiveness and efficiency of operations; and Reliability and integrity of financial and operational information;Safeguarding of assets; and Compliance with laws, regulations, and contracts.
CAS also assesses other aspects such as ethics and values within the organization, performance management, and the communication of risk and control information within the organization, in order to facilitate a good governance process. While management is responsible for internal controls, the internal audit activity provides assurance to management and to the Audit Committee of the Company?s Board of Directors that internal controls are effective and working as intended. The independence of CAS is established by the Company?s organizational and reporting structure, which is outlined in a written charter that was approved by the Audit Committee and is posted on the Company?s website. CAS serves as a valuable resource for management and the Audit Committee due to its understanding of the organization and its culture, operations, and risk profile.
Position; Summary description
As an integral member of the CAS team, this position is responsible for performing specifically assigned tasks that are key and integral components of various financial, compliance, operations and Sarbanes-Oxley audits and services that are performed for the corporate office and subsidiaries of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (?the Company?) on a global basis. Perform and participate in specifically assigned tasks that are key and integral components of various assigned audits and projects on a ?value-added, service oriented? basis in the following areas:
? Financial accounting and reporting;
? Sarbanes-Oxley 404 internal control ;
? Regulatory Compliance;
? Operations Management; and
? Time and Expense. Participate in the process to gain that reasonable assurance that internal controls are in place and adequate to mitigate risks, governance processes are effective and efficient, and organizational goals and objectives are met.Provide recommendations for improvement in those areas where opportunities or deficiencies are identified. Work on an integrated, team-oriented basis with the Company?s external auditors in specifically assigned areas of responsibility to achieve common objectives for the successful and timely completion of financial audits, to minimize external audit costs, to provide quality internal audit work with conclusions that can be readily substantiated and relied upon based upon the work performed, and to continuously identify and implement ways to achieve efficiencies.Perform responsibilities such that assigned projects are completed in a timely manner in accordance with audit plans; that the work performed is adequately documented in organized and easily discernible work papers which support conclusions, that the work performed and the documents tested support and validate conclusions, and that work paper files are fully completed in accordance with proscribed standards. Establish rapport and build cooperative, respectful working relationships with personnel in CAS and throughout the Company?s financial operations areas.
Assist in, and actively contribute to, the development of an Enterprise Risk Management (?ERM?) environment and approach, which is a process, effected by an entity s board of directors, management, and other personnel; applied in a strategy setting and across the enterprise; designed to identify potential events that may affect the entity; and manage risk to be within its risk tolerance to provide reasonable assurance regarding the achievement of entity objectives. Proactively work with other CAS personnel toward gaining an in-depth understanding of the business culture, systems, and processes, as well as significant changes thereto.Learn the principles of Lean Six Sigma and assist in the Company-wide implementation of Lean Six Sigma by identifying areas that could benefit.
Position REQUIREments:
? Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in an accounting or finance-related area, life sciences, or another degree relevant to the Company?s business.
? Strong analytical skills.
? High ethical, honesty and respectability standards.
? Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
? Maturity, self-motivation and initiative in previous roles, and an ability to approach each assignment objectively. Good interpersonal skills.Team-oriented.
? CPA, CIA, CMA, and/or Six Sigma experience a plus, but not necessary.
? Must be able to travel internationally.
