Director, Finance - Business Development

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Evaluate and provide recommendations on all acquisitions, divestitures and strategic investments across TLR, ensuring that the assumptions are sound and that they meet Thomson?s financial criteria.  Work closely with Thomson Corporate Finance and the TLR business units providing timely and accurate reporting.  Monitor post-acquisition performance, including communication of lessons learned.

 MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITYProactively evaluate financial assumptions (sales, pricing, market trends, capital investment, acquisition-related costs, cost estimates and cost synergies) for all acquisitions across TLR, ensuring that the assumptions are reasonable, attainable, and meet Thomson?s financial criteria. Provide recommendations to TLR Finance senior management on acquisition opportunities that drive growth and maximize returns. Provide strategic direction and oversight of the acquisition process, working closely with the TLR business units and Thomson Corporate Finance.  Provide counsel and subject matter expertise to the TLR business units on acquisition matters to ensure clarity of the financial implications of the business decisions.  Prepare all acquisition reporting, including the quarterly TOC acquisition review forms, monthly TOC acquisition report, TLR acquisition pipeline report, slides for quarterly finance presentations, etc. Direct the annual accretion testing process, ensuring that actual performance meets board paper expectations. Complete post-acquisition performance reviews and communicate lessons learned. Interact with the TLR Controller?s office to ensure compliance with applicable accounting guidelines. Support the divestiture and strategic investment process as appropriate. Provide acquisition scenarios for high-profile, confidential acquisition evaluations as assigned by TLR senior management.

 



Education

?Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting required.  CPA or MBA in accounting or finance strongly preferred

 Knowledge and Skills

? Extensive strategic analysis skills; broad knowledge and experience in acquisition analysis a plus

? Proven ability to interact and communicate with executives in a dynamic environment, including senior management

? Proficiency in building relationships, well-developed interpersonal skills, and proven leadership skills

? Full working knowledge of financial and general accounting practices and procedures

? Strong business acumen and demonstrated proficiency in general business disciplines

? Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy in making decisions

? Adaptive to changing business needs and the ability to work in a variety of different business situations, which includes the international arena

? Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects with competing demands for resources

? Highly motivated with ability to drive results

? Leadership skills in directing and developing staff

 Previous Experience

?12+ years of progressive financial experience, including lead financial management roles

?Proficiency in working in a fast-paced, complex, dynamic, multi-cultural business environment

?Strong leadership and management skills
