Financial Analyst-Merchandise Finance-Planning & Analysis

Position Overview :   Works with Senior Analyst and Manager in support role to accomplish the tasks required to successfully plan, forecast, and analyze margin revenue and expenses for the Merchant/purchasing organization.  Responsibilities include weekly financial forecasting of margin activities to include initial markup on product and other margin related components, promotional spending, and inventory forecasts. Also responsibilities include assisting with certain aspects of the seasonal and one-year merchant financial plans. Data gathering, producing reports, summarizing and communicating key findings are the major focus of this position.







 

Knowledge and Experience:

?  Bachelor?s degree in finance or accounting

?  1 to 2 years of related finance/analysis experience required; retail business experience a plus. Basic understanding of retail buying, merchandising and inventory is preferred.

?  Strong analytical and communication skills are required. Ability to create analysis from raw data and articulate findings. Proven ability to effectively communicate financial data.

?  Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

?  Strong knowledge of application software (including but not limited to: spreadsheets and database).  Specifically, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel.

?  Strong organizational skills.

?  Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.

 

Principle Responsibilities:

 

?  Gather and present required financial information needed for forecasting.

?  Produce executive level reports to analyze divisional business performance in areas such as markup on product sales, vendor allowances, inventory levels, buyer expenditures. (markdowns and promotional costs), etc.

?  Detail and update vendor allowance projections and administrate allowance deal finalization.

?  Organize promotional expenditures into useful reports to facilitate and ensure accurate collection of allowances.

?  Assist in the evaluation process of aged inventory and perform misc analyses that support current merchant financial strategies (ie clearance events)

?  Update weekly margin on sales projections working with accounting partners and support mid range forecasts of margin on sales using projected sales and receipt information.

?  Assist senior analyst in supporting  Divisional Merchandise teams with updated expense projections, review of  ad-hoc financial analyses and requests for assistance.

?  Develop strong competency in data extraction from merchant planning tools (i.e,Retek)

?  Maintain, improve, and where possible automate department databases.

?  Assist the senior analysts and/or manager with the seasonal and annual merchant planning process
