Health Economist

 

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced leader to direct the Health Economics and Health Policy Group of the BHCS. The BHCS Institute for Health Care Research and Improvement was founded in 2000 to conduct research related to clinical effectiveness and quality and to translate these findings into health care improvement across BHCS as well as disseminate them nationally and internationally.  This position will lead a group that will develop and apply economic, financial and other relevant methods to conduct health care research and to evaluate the organizational return on investment in BHCS-based hospital and ambulatory improvement initiatives and related clinical transformation efforts.  This position collaborates with clinical scholars, senior members of the Center for Health Care Research (CHCR) and other BHCS colleagues to seek external funding (especially from NIH and AHRQ) and publish in high impact journals.  This position reports directly to the BHCS Vice-President of Health Care Research who is also the Director, CHCR.

 

 

In this position YOU WILL:

 

I.  Collaborate in Health Economics and Health Policy with BHCS clinical scholars, senior members of the CHCR, and BHCS investigators to seek external funding (especially NIH/AHRQ RFA/RFP and R01) by:

 

a. Developing economic research designs

b.  Conducting economic analyses

c. Preparing grant applications.

 

II. Collaborate in Health Economics and Health Policy with BHCS clinical scholars, senior members of the CHCR,  BHCS investigators, Center for Health Care Improvement, and the BHCS/Baylor Research Institute Clinical Trials Office by participating in research activities related to randomized controlled trials, other clinical activities, health care improvement initiatives, clinical transformation efforts, and technology assessment/transfer by:

a. Conducting societal and operational cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA);

b.  Conducting operation cost-benefit analysis (CBA)

c. Conducting return on investment (ROI) analysis

d.  Conducting economic, econometric, and financial analysis. 

 

III. Collaborate in Health Economics and Health Policy with BHCS clinical scholars, senior members of the CHCR, and BHCS investigators by participating in final stages of projects by:

 

a. Developing new methods related to organizational and societal return on investment in clinical transformation efforts including electronic health records;

b.  Finalizing economic, econometric, and financial analyses with the support of CHCR staff;

c.  Working with investigators to develop manuscripts for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals (such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, etc.)

 

 

Qualifications:

 
Doctorate Degree in Economics + 10 years related experience
