Marriott International, a global hospitality leader and one of Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to work for in America", has an opening for an International Statutory Manager position. This position is based at Marriott?s worldwide headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.

 Position Summary

 

This position manages a team responsible for the accurate internal and external financial reporting of Marriott?s foreign subsidiaries within the United Kingdom, Ireland, Middle East and Africa region (UKIMEA). The Manager will be responsible for ensuring the completeness of legal subsidiary ledgers within the region in order to facilitate timely income tax return information for the tax department and separate auditable entity financial statements.

 Responsibilities

 

? Manage a team of finance and accounting professionals, prioritize projects and workload of the team and its individual members, and establish deadlines around those priorities

? Coordinate and manage headquarters audit support for subsidiaries in the UKIMEA Region.  Liaise with regional office, hotel and external audit personnel to ensure that audits occur in a timely and consistent manner.  Identify audit and financial statement filing requirements and monitor status of local country audits.

? Manage processes and procedures for producing UKIMEA subsidiary financial statements and supporting schedules on both local and US GAAP bases of accounting. Explore ways to improve the process.

? For leased or owned properties in the UKIMEA Region, manage process for reconciling tenant entity profit and loss with related hotel operating results.  Work with the International Lodging Finance Business Partner group to communicate results and resolve issues.

? Provide support for recording non-recurring transactions, such as purchase and sale agreements, that impact subsidiaries in the UKIMEA Region.

? Work with hotel Directors of Finance (?DOF?) and other field personnel with respect to technical accounting issues in both local and US GAAP, ensuring that transactions are accounted for appropriately.

? Manage the process of recording local audit adjustments to the separate entity ledgers in a timely manner.

? Partner with hotel DOFs and regional office personnel to obtain and record trial balance activity each month.

? Manage the reconciliation of subsidiary ledger balances to financial statements.

? Review activity on subsidiary ledgers for reasonableness on a systematic basis. 

? Other duties as assigned.

 

 Skill Requirements

 

? Experience with accounting in a multi-currency environment under multiple bases of accounting.

? Strong business process skills; capable of developing effective processes, ensuring compliance with existing processes and producing quality results.

? Able to develop and maintain effective client relationships and promote a client service orientation that delivers customer results.

? Proven manager with ability to lead a team toward the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives and promote a positive working environment; promotes the development of team members.

? Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment.

? Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.  Ability to articulate issues to a variety of individuals at multiple levels within the organization.

? Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and under pressure.  Comfort with challenging status quo to improve effectiveness.

? At ease in an environment of change; supports, manages and initiates change within the organization.

Specific Candidate Profile

 

? BS/BA in Accounting or Finance; CPA, CMA or MBA preferred.

? Eight or more years of progressive job experience in accounting/finance field with 3 or more in a management position; significant international accounting exposure a plus.

? Excellent interpersonal skills.  Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and influence others across the organization. 

? Proven experience in the recruitment, development and leadership of a strong team within a multi-tasked environment.

? Demonstrates sound organizational and prioritization skills; high performance levels under tight deadlines

? High degree of initiative, personal responsibility and integrity

? Customer service orientation with both internal and external customers.

? Self-motivated and creative thinker regarding process improvement and systemic process analysis.
