Department Overview:
The Credit and Collections Department of the Finance Shared Service Center is responsible for the accounts receivable collection and risk management for a portfolio of customer accounts. The department staff interacts with customers, Sales Representatives, Customer Support, Distribution Center personnel, numerous departments and other business units located within the Cardinal Health organization. The primary focus of the department is to collect the $[TBD] Billion accounts receivable portfolio, ensure our customers have the ongoing ability to pay for the product and services supplied and identify if additional credit or risk should be reviewed.
Purpose:
The Credit & Collections Manager is responsible for monitoring customer accounts, collections and credit quality within a specified area of assignment. The Credit & Collections Manager will manage several supervisors that will have numerous collections staff members reporting to them who will perform daily collection duties, reconcile customer accounts and research discrepancies. The collections staff is responsible for maintaining low delinquency and targeted DSO performance within MPS or PD customer accounts. The Credit & Collections Manager will also interface extensively with customers, management, operations and other credit and collections personnel to ensure that company accounts receivable objectives are met and business opportunities are maximized.
Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:
Manage the MPS or PD collection efforts to meet delinquency and DSO objectives.
Review assigned accounts/credit limits/aging reports daily.
Hold weekly staff/individual meetings to review account issues and objectives.
Assist Collections Supervisors in developing action plans to resolve billing and payment issues and ensure that collections representatives are following through with those plans.
Ensure compliance with credit and collections policies and guidelines in order to protect the accounts receivable asset.
Negotiate and follow up on payment arrangements/action plans with more difficult customers.
Ensure adequate staffing and training is maintained in order for the department to meet financial and career development objectives
Develop a firm understanding of the payment practices/procedures within each of the MPS or PD customers and any contract compliance issues that are involved.
Work extensively with the MPS or PD customers and all areas of Distribution that impact A/R to build strategies that strengthen working relationships and improve/streamline billing, remittance and collection processes.
Help Collections Supervisors reconcile customer accounts and research invoice discrepancies/deductions.
Manage portfolio monitoring and reporting. Review monthly reporting of MPS or PD delinquency.
Provide timely and pertinent feedback to employees on their performance, including formal performance evaluations.
Provide input to FSS Credit & Collections Director in setting and managing multiple goals and priorities.
Responsible for collections agency management.
Responsible for legal workouts and write-offs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education or Equivalent: Minimum of a four year degree in Business/Finance/Accounting/Economics. Commercial Bank or Finance Training preferred.
Experience or Equivalent: 5-8 years experience including commercial collections (business to business), supervisory experience and credit analysis & underwriting
Strong communication, management and interpersonal skills; requires limited supervision.
Must possess the resourcefulness, planning and ability to motivate and ability to influence decisions and actions positively.
Working knowledge of operations, sales and purchasing functions; must be able to integrate practical knowledge from all such functional areas.
Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, organize, and integrate a course of action to achieve business objectives.
Demonstrated ability to assess the implications of decisions on other components of the organization.
Demonstrated sensitivity to multi-cultural environments in personal interactions and business practices.

Strong PC skills to include a working knowledge of mainframe based accounts receivable systems, Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong customer service orientation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: The ability to develop an implementation plan to transition from a decentralized operation to a centralized shared service operation with minimal business interruption. Must understand how to organize a collections operation using best in class processes.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Strong will power to build an organization through consolidation of existing organizations while limiting business interruption
Work Environment: Office environment with a large number of clerical and professional personnel operating in a performance driven, high volume transactional environment.
