The Mattson Jack Group (MJG), a division of London-based WPP plc, is a growing global healthcare / pharmaceutical consulting firm headquartered in St. Louis, MO, with other U.S. offices in Philadelphia, PA, Kansas City, MO, San Francisco, CA, and Phoenix, AZ.  MJG specializes in providing pharmaceutical and biotech industry clients with strategic direction assistance.  We are currently seeking to fill a position in our Strategic Forecasting group.  The position would be located in one of our U.S. offices, to be determined.  This group is responsible for assisting our pharmaceutical company clients in determining the commercial potential of their compounds in development as well as their marketed products.

 

The successful candidates must meet these requirements:

 

? Strong analytical and quantitative skills.  Such skills may be obtained through a degree in mathematics, finance, physics/chemistry, economics, computer science or statistics and/or through heavily quantitative work experience for at least three to five years.  An ability to apply rigorous analytical thinking to multi-million dollar business decisions is required.

? Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.  Experience with VBA, databases (MS Access and/or SQL Server), or SAS a plus.

 

In addition to quantitative and analytical skills, as well as the computer skills, listed above, the following characteristics are desired:

 

? Presentation skills ? you will be required to present your work and defend your conclusions to an educated audience, first internally with colleagues and eventually externally with clients.

? People skills ? as you grow into a client-facing role, client interface and management is required for project success.

? Pharmaceutical or healthcare experience a plus, but not necessary.

? Pride in your work, strong work ethic, and good time-management skills.

? Ability to travel.  (Approx. 25%, but will vary depending on position.)

 

As a member of the Strategic Forecasting group you would apply these skills to the science of forecasting the commercial potential of pharmaceutical products.  This is typically done in the form of a complex mathematical model, often delivered in Microsoft Excel, backed by comprehensive background research and the experience of knowledgeable experts.
